
KAARO KARUNGI | KABALE– Two people have died while they were illegally excavating sand in Kabale District.
The two are; Simon Arinitwe 24 years of Rukaranga cell, Buranga parish and Edwin Nuwagaba 30 yrs of Nyakyonga cell both of Kamuganguzi sub county Kabale district according to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson.
The incindet according to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson took place today at around 7Am at Rukaranga cell, when other sand miners went to the place and found two Jackets of their known friends hanged somewhere.
They looked around for the owners who were no where to be seen forcing them to rush to their homes to ask their relatives who confirmed that the duo went to mine sand early in the morning.
“That’s when they realised that those two people have been covered with sand and they informed the police for further management” Maate told the press in a statement.
“Our team immediately visited the scene, did the postmortem on site and bodies handed over to relatives for burial” Maate asserted.
This is one of the quarries that Kabale administration stopped people from using to avoid tempering with the environment and also to avoid such incidents.
Maate adds that Investigations are already at hand at Kabale Central Police station on Reference SD 03/31/03/2021.
