Government allocates Shs50bn for compensation of lost cattle

The government has revealed that it has allocated Shs50 billion in the 2021/22 budget for compensation of residents who lost their cattle during the war in the Lango, Acholi and Teso regions.

While canvassing for votes in the regions during the just concluded presidential elections, President Museveni pledged compensation of Shs150 billion for the people who lost cattle to the rebels and Karimojong cattle rustlers.

But the ministry of finance said that they required Shs200b to compensate all people in regions that lost their cattle.

While appearing before the budget committee, the minister of finance Matia Kasaija said that they have allocated Shs50bn in the forthcoming budget.

He says that the money will be released in phases until all residents are compensated.
