Police in Bulenga in Wakiso district are holding a man for attempting to burn alive his wife and stepson on suspicion of infidelity. The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire identifies the suspect as Moses Saali, a resident of Bugonya-Bulenga B in Wakiso District.
According to Owoyesigyire, the suspect locked up his wife only identified as Nansamba and his stepson Umaru Kasibante inside the house and torched it. Residents told police detectives that the suspect torched the house on Wednesday when he returned home and heard voices inside, which made him, suspect his wife of cheating on him with another man.
After torching the house, the suspect took off from the scene. However, when residents broke into the house, they only found Nansamba with her son, Kasibante who had paid her a visit. The duo was rushed to Kiruddu Hospital where they are nursing burns.
Owoyesigyire says that the suspect was arrested while on the run and is in custody at Bulenga police station on charges of attempted murder and arson as the investigations into the matter continue.
Recently another man in wiling zone-Kansanga in Makindye division, a Kampala suburb locked his two children and wife inside the house and torched it following a heated disagreement after his wife accused him of repeated infidelity. Cases of domestic violence are common.
According to the 2019 crime report, police registered 13,693 cases of domestic violence compared to 13,916 in 2018. Most of the cases result from disputes over family property, failure to provide for the family, drugs and alcohol abuse and infidelity.
