Azawi and Guinness Offer Exclusive Preview of ‘Sankofa’ Album Ahead of Launch

Anticipation is growing as Azawi’s new album, ‘Sankofa,’ is set to release on October 9. Last night, a select group of people from the public and media had the chance to hear the album before it comes out. Azawi and Guinness Uganda organized this special listening event at Kibo Lounge in Naguru.

Azawi and Guinness have been working together since 2021, and they are now partnering for her upcoming concert on October 20th at Kampala Serena Hotel.

This partnership shows Guinness’s commitment to supporting creative artists and the creative industry. Azawi previously supported Guinness’s ‘Black Shines Brightest’ campaign, which promotes collaboration in the creative community.

Through this collaboration, Guinness aims to celebrate the accomplishments of creatives, provide opportunities for emerging talents, and promote collaboration and creativity.

Elizabeth Mutamuliza, the Brand Manager of Guinness Uganda, spoke about the importance of working with Azawi and supporting the creative industry.

“Guinness collaborations go beyond sponsoring events. We want to support the creative industry and be a catalyst for conversations about how young people can make a sustainable living from their creativity. Azawi embodies the spirit of ‘Black Shines Brightest,’ and we’re excited to celebrate her journey.”

Azawi’s concert, named “Sankofa,” is about reflecting on the past to shape the future. The album features over 14 carefully crafted tracks, promising to be a masterpiece of melodies and stories.

During the listening event, Azawi shared her inspiration for the album. “I was going through a tough time creatively, but my mentors advised me to look back at my past self. That’s how ‘Sankofa’ came to be. In this album, I get to be vulnerable and share my feelings with my fans.”

Azawi collaborated with international musicians, composers, and producers on the album, including Konshens, Sauti Sol, Mike Kayihura, and Elijah Kitaka. The album includes production by Bangar Boi, Artin Pro, Steve Keys, and Ghanaian producer Groovy World, who inspired the album title ‘Sankofa.’

Each song on the album takes listeners on a journey through Azawi’s most personal moments, with meaningful lyrics and captivating sounds.

One of the standout songs is “Champion from Africa,” inspired by Azawi’s fans. “My fans’ comments on social media motivate me and remind me why I do what I do. They make me feel like a star,” she said.

For music enthusiasts looking forward to Azawi’s concert at Serena Hotel, early bird tickets are available for Shs150,000, while gate tickets are Shs200,000. You can also reserve a table for eight at Shs3m.

This promises to be a night of exceptional music, inclusivity, and celebrating creativity.
