A situation has become so tense around the walls of Makerere University after some students are alerting each other today to come with red gowns this Monday and ready to protest against the intended system of online learning as was said by Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe the vice chancellor of the same institution.

Students of year two studying Journalism at the University who chose anonymity for security issues said they wonder why the institution continues to ask a lot of tuition and other overwhelming funds yet the administrators never accept students to access the premises of the university even when the schools were opened.

They go ahead to say,

if other schools like Kampala International University, Kyambogo University and other big institutions have chosen to go back to physical lectures why can’t it be also here?

And besides these students complain that since the president of Uganda His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta opened schools, what next is Prof. Nawangwe waiting for.

John Odyem a student of music at Makerere University said he has been affected by poor performance ever since they changed the system of learning.

He added that the president’s speech of opening schools had seemed a consolation untill when the Makerere administration insisted on this new normal of online learning.

Odyem said that his course is a practical one and yet he can’t get good instructions from the lecturer online.

The above plans of students came up because yesterday Nawangwe updated the gallant Makerereans of his plans to use the students leaders especially Guild Representatives on the Council (GRCs) to help in training the Freshers on how to learn using online platforms like Muele ahead of next semester.
