Entebbe Magistrates court has this morning charged Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and his friend Suzan Makula for allegedly entering a void marriage.
The two have appeared before Grade One Magistrate Stella Okwang and have pleaded not guilty to charges of contracting an illegal traditional marriage ceremony.
This followed criminal summons issued on December 22nd 2021 summoning the House of Prayer Ministries International boss pastor Bugingo and his friend Makula to appear in court today to take plea on the said allegations.
Bugingo and Makula were dragged to court by public litigants Male Mabirizi and Robert Rutaro Muhairwe for engaging in a marriage process early in December 2021, yet he is still married to Teddy Bugingo Naluswa.
On December 22, last year, Entebbe Magistrates Court presided over by the Grade One Magistrate, Stella Okwong Paculal, charged Bugingo, the lead pastor at House of Prayer Ministries International, and his friend Makula with three counts related to a void marriage contrary to the Marriage Act.
The duo is now applying to be released on bail.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions has been allowed to take over the case from private prosecution.
Since 2019, the House of Prayer Ministries International pastor and wife Naluswa have been at loggerheads, and Bugingo filed for divorce in 2019.
