The government through the National Covid-19 Taskforce headed by new Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja yesterday approved groups of Vulnerables that will initially benefit from the planned Covid-19 cash give out.
The groups announced include; the boda boda riders, youths in slums, single mothers, taxi/bus drivers and conductors, Saloon operators, cargo offloaders and onloaders and people with small businesses who were highly affected by the lockdown announced by the President earlier this month.
In the Taskforce meeting held yesterday, the members revealed groups that will receive the mobile money cash but unfortunately, some members failed to agree on the amount of money each Vulnerable individual noted will receive and therefore decided to hand the issue to the Cabinet for the final decision.
According to the ICT and National Guidance Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Vulnerable people from Kampala capital, metropolitan areas, Gulu and other places affected with Covid-19 are the closest to benefit from this government course.
“The LC 1 leaders and RDCs are slated to identify those people and once they avail us with the list and we verify that they are the right people, we shall there wire the money.” – Baryomunsi.
Before Journalists yesterday, Dr. Baryomunsi said that they have already asked the ministry of Finance to provide them with the available money to start up early in catering for these groups.
The minister also cleared it out that their board failed to come out with the actual budget and the actual amount of money for these vulnerables but rather handed the matter to the Cabinet who will use the list of the beneficiaries to come out with the budget and amount of money on Monday next week.
