Police in Lira is hunting for a man who allegedly killed his six-month old stepdaughter over yet unknown reasons.

Walter Otim a resident of Ogeo A village, Apua parish in Aromo sub-county, disappeared immediately after the mother of the child, Brandy Awino, 22, noticed that her daughter was dead.

Available information corroborated by the Police indicates that Otim had an affair with Holga Atoo who is a married woman.

Atoo is married to Bonny Anyang, 27, a resident of Ajurujuru village, Aleka parish, in Aleka sub-county, Oyam district.

It is alleged that on August 19, 2021, at around 1:00 pm while at Ogeo A village, the mother of the deceased Brandy Awino laid her to sleep under a tree and at that moment she was together with the Otim at home.

Awino reportedly continued with the house work and moments later when she checked, the baby was dead and both Atoo and Otim had suddenly disappeared from home.

Jimmy Patrick Okema the regional Police spokesperson of North Kyoga said Atoo was arrested and is being held at Lira Central Police Station on murder charges while Otim is on the run.

He said the body was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem which was done and the body handed over to relatives for burial.

Okema said a death enquiry file, DEF 27/2021 has been opened as investigation continues. The file was also registered under Lira-CRB 901/2021

“Scene of crime was visited, statements recorded and one suspect arrested,” he said.
