MITOOMA:
In the heart of Mitooma district, tragedy struck when a woman lost her life in the pursuit of terminating a pregnancy.
The deceased was identified as Arineitwe Claire, a resident of Bitooma 1 in Omunkura of Katenga Sub-county.
Her passing on Friday sent shock waves throughout the community, and her funeral was held the following day at her former husband’s home in the same area.
Reports from residents who spoke to our reporter revealed that the deceased was once married to a man named Ntimba. However, their union was short-lived, and they separated last year.
According to the deceased, Ntimba was unfaithful, repeatedly cheating on her. This infidelity led to their split, and the deceased found herself single and searching for ways to support herself.
To make ends meet, Arineitwe Claire opened a small hotel in the Omunkura Trading center, where she sold chai to locals. However, it wasn’t long before she discovered that she could supplement her income by offering herself to other men for money.
It is said that she engaged in sexual relationships with multiple partners, using the hotel as a cover-up for her illicit activities.
Tragically, her immoral lifestyle caught up with her when she found herself pregnant for a man whose identity remains unknown. Fearing the humiliation that would come with having a child out of wedlock, she made the ill-advised decision to abort the pregnancy.
Unfortunately, the procedure did not go as planned, and she lost her life in the process.
One of her close friends revealed that the deceased had hoped to reconcile with her ex-husband, Ntimba. She believed that terminating the pregnancy would make her more desirable in his eyes and increase her chances of reuniting with him.
Her desire to return to her former life and the fear of public shame drove her to make a life-ending decision.
The passing of Arineitwe Claire left four children motherless and brought the issue of abortion to the forefront of discussions in Mitooma district.
