A citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) identified as Levi David Nyanzi Mwezye, believed to be in his mid-30s, has been arrested in Jinja city at Embassy Club on Iganga Road, reportedly in possession of two bullets and sketch maps. The arrest was made over the weekend, and the suspect’s belongings are set to be verified by experts from the Uganda Police Force and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
According to James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson, the suspect, when questioned at Jinja Central Police Station, initially spoke fluent Congolese but later switched to various languages from Uganda. Additionally, he allegedly feigned mental illness during the interrogation. Mubi emphasized that further questioning and examination, including a mental evaluation, will be conducted to ascertain any possible links to terror groups.
The spokesperson issued a warning to the public, urging vigilance regarding unknown individuals in gathering areas such as worship centers, markets, and hotels. Mubi emphasized the importance of community policing for personal and community security, encouraging the public to use free toll lines provided by the police to report any anomalies. The arrest has raised security concerns, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the possession of bullets and sketch maps by the detained individual.
