In Mbarara City, Uganda, Ntare School has taken the decision to suspend 205 Senior Six students indefinitely due to issues related to discipline. The school’s head teacher, Saul Rwampororo, reported that the students engaged in unruly behavior on Monday night, resulting in the destruction of school property, including a recently installed CCTV system.

The trouble began when school authorities discovered that two students were in possession of mobile phones, which was a clear violation of the school’s regulations. In response to the decision to confiscate these phones, a group of students opted to protest, ultimately leading to the damaging of school property.

Regarding a discrepancy in the dates, where a stamp indicated that the circular about the suspension was dated in September, Rwampororo attributed this mistake to an error made by the secretary.

Some students, speaking anonymously to our reporter, claimed that the affected students were using the confiscated phones for research purposes.

This suspension comes at a critical time, occurring nearly a month before the Uganda Advanced Certificate examinations are scheduled to commence on November 10, 2023.

It’s worth noting that Ntare School boasts a rich history, being the alma mater of Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame.
