The Police in Tororo district have initiated a widespread manhunt for an unidentified group of individuals who ambushed an officer, making off with his AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 6, at approximately 8:00 pm within the South Central East Zone, Eastern Division, Tororo Municipality.
The victim, identified as Richard Otwani, bearing the police designation PC number 65417, was reportedly en route to guard the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) offices when he was attacked. The stolen rifle is registered under the number 835517-0956.
Otwani’s ordeal was brought to an abrupt end when a bodaboda rider came to his rescue, swiftly transporting him to Tororo Central Police Station. Initial reports suggest that he may have sustained head injuries from a blunt object, as he was discovered on the ground with profuse bleeding.
Police sources have indicated that the case, documented under SD 66/06/01/2024, is actively under investigation to recover the stolen firearm and apprehend the responsible suspects. The urgency of this pursuit is heightened due to the rampant incidents of attacks and gun thefts in the area.
