Police confirmed on Saturday that two people lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Nakasongola district. According to Sam Twineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah region Police, the victims were Jackline Akello and Janet Ayebare. They were struck by a reckless driver as they were walking along the highway’s right side, facing oncoming traffic. The incident occurred at approximately 6 am on Saturday morning in the Namunsaala zone of Kakooge town council.

Akello and Ayebare were employees of Euro Chick, a poultry and poultry products company based in Luweero. Akello, a 25-year-old resident of Kakooge town council, was identified by Twineamazima. The driver of the Toyota Premio silver (UAM 538D) involved in the accident fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The driver, reportedly traveling from Nakasongola towards Gulu, collided with the pedestrians who were en route from Kakooge to Nabulungi for work.

Twineamazima stated, “The vehicle was speeding and struck these two pedestrians, causing their immediate demise. This tragic incident resulted from the reckless driving of the unidentified driver.” Following the accident, the Police were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene to document the incident. The bodies of the victims were transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination. The vehicle was towed to Katugo Police Station for inspection by the inspector of vehicles. Police are actively pursuing efforts to apprehend the driver responsible for this incident.
