The Uganda Police Force in Kampala Metropolitan Police has apprehended PC Ahabwe Michael, a former officer from CPS Kampala. He disappeared after stealing a motorcycle belonging to a boda boda rider named Walusimbi Samuel.

The motorcycle was confiscated during a routine traffic operation and was supposed to be delivered to the CPS yard. However, PC Ahabwe failed to do so and vanished, leading to his declaration as a police deserter.

After fleeing to Mbarara, the suspect found employment with SGA Security Company as a security guard. He was deployed to the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd on January 20, 2024.

However, his stint as a security guard was short-lived as he was apprehended on February 16, 2024, for stealing metallic rail bars used in electricity infrastructure. The theft case was transferred along with the suspect to CPS Kampala for further legal proceedings.

Instances of theft and robbery involving current or former police officers bring disgrace upon the force. Such misconduct undermines public confidence in law enforcement and stains the reputation of the vast majority of the 50,000 police officers who diligently serve and protect the people of Uganda.

“Efforts to root out rogue officers from the force continue. Additionally, we are releasing the suspect’s images to encourage any individuals who may have been victimized by him to come forward and report their grievances at KMP Headquarters at CPS Kampala”, said SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson.

The suspect is set to face charges including theft, robbery, and desertion.
