A grim discovery unfolded on March 8th at the Kisoga Police Post barracks in Mukono district. Constable Hussein Saddick Baguma, a police officer, was found lifeless in his quarters, detected by a foul odor emanating from his unit.
Baguma had reportedly diverted 800,000 shillings, designated as a suspect’s fund, for personal gambling pursuits, leading to his tragic demise. In a bid to recoup the lost funds, Baguma resorted to desperate measures, including coercive tactics towards his relatives for financial aid, as disclosed by Deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.
An investigation into Baguma’s demise has been launched, emphasizing adherence to police protocols governing the handling of suspects’ assets. While the inquiry unfolds, Owoyesigyire underscored the incident as a cautionary tale against the pitfalls of sports betting, highlighting the dangers of gambling addiction.
