A private security guard attached to Millenium Security Company Limited in Rukungiri district is in trouble for losing a firearm to thugs.
Julius Byamukama, who is locked up at Rukungiri police station, lost his gun to thugs while on duty at Rubabo Savings and Credit Co-operatives (SACCO) Nyakisheinyi branch in Mukirangyira Trading center in Nyakishenyi sub-county on Saturday night.
Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner, told our reporter that Byamukama was suspectedly drunk during this incident.
Edwin Atukunda, the Acting Rukungiri District Police Commander, says that efforts are on to track down the thugs and recover the firearm.
Nsubuga identified the stolen gun as MACK4/UG/POL/1387/104641.
The attackers are said to have taken advantage of the fact that the security officer was alone on duty and drunk.
The RDC urged the public to keep an eye out as the stolen gun could be used to terrorize them.
ASP Edwin Atukunda the Acting District Police Commander says police has commenced investigations and that Byamukama is currently being detained at Rukungiri police station to help police with the investigations.
