Police in Mbarara District are investigating a tragic incident where a father allegedly murdered his son over a land dispute.
The suspect, 65-year-old Tumwiine Perez from Bitereko Village in Kariro Parish, Rubindi, is accused of killing his 35-year-old son, Tweteise Nickson, on the night of May 19th.
According to the village chairperson, LC1 Mwombekyi Dezi, the deceased had been a cause of concern in the community. He was reportedly involved in stealing and assaulting residents. Dezi further alleges that Nickson had threatened to kill his father unless he received a portion of his land.
Following the incident, Perez reportedly turned himself in at Rubindi Police Station. He is currently in custody facing murder charges.
ASP Betungura Amos, the Officer in Charge of Rubindi Police Station, confirmed the incident. He stated that police officers visited the crime scene and transported the deceased’s body to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
