Kigezi High School, located in Kabale district, Uganda, celebrated its 100th year in the education sector. Established in 1922 by Protestant Missionaries on Rugarama Hill in Kabale Municipality’s Northern Division, the school’s mission was to promote both Christianity and academic values among students. It transitioned to a Junior Secondary School in 1946 and became a Senior Secondary School in 1965.

The school has nurtured many notable individuals, including former Premiers Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and Amama Mbabazi, Justice George Kanyeihamba, Dr. Ezra Suruma, Professor George Mondo Kagonyera, Professor Augustus Nuwagaba, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Major Generals Jim Muhwezi and Henry Matsiko, Dr. Abed Bwanika, Munini Mulera, and others who have excelled in politics, business, civil service, and religion.

During the celebration in Kabale district, Rt.Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, emphasized the importance of teaching students how to handle peer pressure on social media, which can influence their moral values.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the chief guest represented by Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, called for discipline among students, urging them to avoid harmful behaviors such as alcoholism, smoking, and sexual promiscuity for a prosperous future. President Museveni also pledged 100 million Ugandan shillings toward the construction of a multipurpose structure to commemorate the school’s 100 years, with a total cost of four billion shillings.
