Kaddugala Secondary School in Masaka City is set to receive UGX 1.5 billion for the enhancement of its infrastructure. This financial support, allocated through the School Facilitation Grant, will be allocated to various improvements, primarily focusing on the construction of modern science and computer laboratories and a classroom block, according to school authorities.
The use of the funds will be in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The primary objective is to enhance the academic performance of the school.
Masaka City’s principal education officer, Steven Kakeeto, emphasized that these funds are intended to benefit the school as a whole. He specifically mentioned that the allocation prioritizes the construction and equipping of science and computer laboratories. Additionally, part of the funds will be directed towards promoting and improving the teaching of science subjects and the lower secondary curriculum.
The disbursement of these funds will begin soon, with the school expected to receive the first batch of UGX 750 million before the end of this month. This initial allocation will be used for the construction and equipping of the laboratories.
The guest of honor at the event, Hajji Musa Mpungu, who serves as the chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Teachers Association (UMAT), commended the school’s board of governors for their collaboration with the head teacher in developing the school. He also contributed by donating 100 bags of cement for the construction of a perimeter wall around the school.
Yahaya Ssengabi, the school’s head teacher, expressed his gratitude to the government for their continuous support, emphasizing its positive impact on academic performance. In the past year, the school’s enrollment has increased from 680 students to the current 1,000 students, alongside improved academic results, including nine first-grade students in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations last year. Ssengabi also highlighted other achievements, such as the construction of modern restrooms for both girls and boys and the opening of a road connecting the school to the main road (Masaka – Kampala Highway).
