President Yoweri Museveni while addressing the nation on July 30, directed both the education and the health ministry to work out modalities for re-opening of medical and health training institutions.
Medical and health training institutions are set to re-open this Friday, August 13, 2021.
The reopening however will happen in a phased manner, allowing 33% of the student population at the institution at any time.
This was contained in a letter written by the education and sports ministry permanent secretary, Ketty Lamaro and addressed to all principals of health training institutions.
President Yoweri Museveni while addressing the nation on July 30, directed both the education and the health ministry to work out modalities for re-opening of medical and health training institutions.
It is against this background that the two ministries worked out a plan to that effect.
“As a way of decongesting the schools, re-opening will be managed in a staggered manner starting with senior classed for each programme allowing 33% of student population at the campus at any time,” Lamaro said.
She said dates for interviews and admission of new student will be communicated to the interested parties in due course.
Lamaro however urged the schools to observe the set standard operating procedures, adding that compliance of these shall be monitored.
“The schools will conduct proper screening of all students using a check list of identifying risk of infection to COVID-19 upon return,” she said.
The ministry of health will also provide vaccines to all students in medical schools and health training institutions upon return.
Medical institutions are however instructed to collaborate closely with their training hospitals, district COVID-19 task communities as well as nearby hospitals.
