Businessman and entrepreneur Patrick Bitature has been appointed the second Chancellor of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU).
His appointment was made by the university’s board of directors and signed by Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, the board chairman.
He will be serving in this capacity for four years with effect from September 17, 2021.
Bitature takes over from Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who was the former Vice President of Kenya.
Bitature holds an honorary doctorate and is a graduate of the London School of Accountancy in the UK.
He is the chairman and chief executive officer Simba Group of companies, an East African conglomerate, with interests in telecoms, energy production, mining, media, real estate, travel, and leisure.
Prof Baryamureeba said Bitature shall preside over UTAMU’s sixth graduation ceremony scheduled to take place this Friday, September 24, 2021.
“Bitature brings with him, immense knowledge and experience in business development, innovation and governance of public and private sector institutions. He is a person that affirms faith in business, and he is indeed a practice professor of business,” Baryamureeba said.
The chancellor is the titular head of a university and confers degrees, awards, diplomas, certificates, and other qualifications of the university in the name of the university.
The chancellor also promotes the image of the university and may from time to time advise the university council, which he considers necessary for the betterment and advancement of the university’s scientific, technological, cultural, and social progress.
UTAMU is a private university that was accredited by the national council of higher education in March 2013, in accordance with the universities and other tertiary institutions in 2001 as amended.
