In a recent event at the East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development, two long-serving senior staff members, Prof. J.C.S. Musaazi and Dr. David Onen, were honored at a farewell party. The event took place on September 29, 2023, at the University Guest House gardens, featuring music, dance, food, drinks, speeches, and a Mass led by local clergymen.
Among the notable attendees were the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (FA), Prof. Frank N. Mwine, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, and other prominent university officials. During the celebration, Prof. Musaazi was recognized for his significant contributions to the university, including spearheading Makerere’s first-ever taught PhD program and securing the deployment of renowned professors through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation.
Dr. Onen, reflecting on his 37-year journey at the university, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, supervising students, publishing scholarly work, and editing the Makerere Journal of Higher Education (MAJOHE). Prof. Julius Kikooma, the Ag. Dean of the School, emphasized the importance of Higher Education and praised the departing staff for their contributions to its development.
The event concluded with heartfelt messages of appreciation and best wishes for the retirees’ future endeavors.
