Netflix, the streaming service provider, will no longer offer a free subscription option in Kenya starting from November 1st. This decision is driven by Netflix’s efforts to boost its revenue in the face of rising competition in the market.
In 2021, Netflix introduced a free access plan for users in Kenya, providing a limited selection of content without requiring a subscription. This initiative aimed to tap into Kenya’s growing streaming market.
Netflix has announced that the free plan will be discontinued, and users will have their memberships automatically canceled when the free service ends. The company encourages its subscribers to consider upgrading to one of its premium plans.
This move by Netflix follows its earlier decision to reduce subscription prices for Kenyan customers by 37%, a response to the increasing competition posed by services like Showmax and DStv.
