Six out of eight people suspected to have attempted to assassinate Works Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, have today faced more 18 fresh charges before Nakawa Magistrate Court in Kampala.
The charges include Murder and aggregated robbery in respect to an attack on Cheap General Hardware at Nansana East One Zone in Wakiso on 29th/May/2019; where four people were killed and shs385million stolen on gun point.
The other attack was on 27th/April/2019 at City Shoppers Supermarket Kanyanya in Mpererwe Kawempe Division in Kampala District, where they killed one person, robbed two people of Shs6.7million and attempted to murder a one Nantambi Jalia using a gun.
Another attack was 16th/September/2017, on Denovo Bakery Kalerwe Kawempe Division in Kampala,were they killed 3 people including Special Police Constables, Hussein Mubiru and Moses Kalungi and attempted to kill a one Hakizza Everest and took off with shs34.7million.
The six accused are Wampa Muzaifu alias Kanaabe a Boda Boda rider of Luweero District together with a one Muhammad Kagugube, Walusimbi Kamadda, Silman Kisambira, Abdul Aziz Ramadhan Dunku and Habibi Ramadhan Marjan.
They also faced fresh charges of Rendering Support to Terrorist Organisation; Terrorist Financing and Belonging to a Terrorist Organisation of the Allied Democratic Force.
The Director of Public Prosecution, Jane Frances Abodo consented to the 18 new charges plus the first six they faced in relation to Gen. Katumba assassination attempt; which now brings a total of 24 Counts against these six accused persons alone.
It is alleged that between March / 2015 and 2021 in Kampala, Luweero, Kasese and in Eastern DR Congo, the accused persons rendered support to Lubwama Hussein alias Master by stealing from the members of the public with an intention that the funds would be used in acts of Terrorism.
The six are jointly charged with a one Hussein Sserubula and Yusuf Nyanzi Siraje, for the attempted murder of Gen. Katumba, the murder of his daughter Brenda Nantongo, his driver Sgt Haruna Kayondo, on 1st. June. 2021 at Kisaasi Central Zone in Kampala.
The suspects appeared before Grade One Magistrate Ponsiano Adwori, via Zoom Technology, who sent them back on remand at Kitalya Prison; saying they cannot plead to the fresh charges which are also capital in nature and only tried and bailed before the High Court.
They return to Court on 21st/October/2021 as investigations into their case continue
