KAARO KARUNGI | ISINGIRO – The Isingiro district Covid-19 taskforce has reopened isolation centres following a surge in the number of covid-19 patients in the country. Isingiro has so far registered 319 cases with 4 admissions and one death last month.
The reopened Isolation centres are Kabahinda, Rwenkubo Health centre IV, Nyamuyanja, Nshungyezi and Kikagate PAC Isolation centre.
Herbert Muhangi the Resident District Commissioner and chairperson of Task Force says the reopening of the isolation centres follows the increasing number of call alerts that are being reported from the community.
He says however much they have reopened the centres they are encouraging home-based care services because of inadequate resources to manage the cases.
Dr Edson Tumusherure, Isingiro District Health Officer, says the district has run out of vaccine at all facilities. He says they are currently waiting for the second delivery of the vaccines despite receiving 8,803 doses in March.
Muhangi says they are already facing a challenge of people crossing to and from Tanzania to graze, cultivate and collect firewood which he says needs a lot of vigilance.
He says they have increased the deployment along the border and asked police and UPDF to restrict movement since borders are not officially reopened.
Isingiro district has two official points of entry at the border of Kikagate and Bugango which are only opened for cargo trucks.
Isingiro district uses Mbarara regional referral hospital as the main treatment centre for Covid-19 patients but with the hospital filled up, the district has turned to Rwenkubo Health Center IV as the treatment centre for none severe cases.
