Isingiro LC1 Chairperson Kidnapped and Murdered

ISINGIRO, UGANDA: Police in Isingiro District are investigating a case of kidnap and murder of Turyasingura Evaristo, a 47-year-old businessman and chairperson LC1 of Rugarama cell in Kamubeizi Town Council.

According to the Rwizi region Police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasiita, it is alleged that on Friday, August 18, 2023, an unknown person called the deceased inviting him to attend an MK Project meeting at Igongo Hotel and even sent him an allowance of 100,000 Ugandan shillings on his Airtel Money account on August 19, 2023, to lure him into accepting to travel.

On August 20, 2023, at around 21:00 hours, the same people called the deceased to meet them at Keizibate stage along Kikagate Mbarara road so that they could proceed to the said meeting. The deceased packed a few clothes and proceeded to the place on a boda boda ridden by his son, Tuhirirwe Gidoen.

When they reached the stage, they found a Toyota Wish motor vehicle with registration number plates covered in MK Project stickers. On entering the vehicle, it drove off so fast, causing suspicion in the mind of the son. On reaching home, they tried to contact the deceased and those that had invited him for the meeting, but all their phones were already off.

The deceased’s body was discovered the following day, August 21, 2023, at around 17:30 hours at Kyamusoni, mile 48 along Kikagate Kitwe Road. He had been tied with ropes and strangled with a piece of cloth.

The body was retrieved and taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem. The motive of the murder has not been established yet, and no arrests have been made. Investigations are still ongoing.
