KAARO KARUNGI | KAMPALA – Kyambogo University Vice-Chancellor Professor Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya has passed out a statement warning both the students and staff members about the increasing number of Covid-19 cases with the university.
In the 26th May 2021 dated letter, the Vice-Chancellor warns about the rising number of COVID-19 cases as so far, six students and two administrative staff members have been confirmed to have contracted the virus.
“So far, six (6) students and two (2) administrative staff have tested positive,” read the statement in part.
He went on to say that many students have been exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms although they still refuse to get tested for the deadly virus which means there maybe more cases of covid-19 than have been confirmed.
”In addition, many students have cough and flue and a number of them have refused to be tested, hence the situation may be worse than is reported,” Kyambogo University Vice-Chancellor went on to inform about the Covid-19 situation on the Banda based campus.
While making a comparison between Kyambogo University and the country, the vice Chancellor said that just as much as the country is troubled by Covid-19, so is the university and therefore they ought to embrace the online learning system.
“I therefore want to urge all Dean’s and Heads of Departments to engage the students through ODeL as planned and show in the schedule released by the Academic Registrar. I am glad that School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SOME) has already taken it up.”
Conclusively, the Vice Chancellor urged the staff members to get vaccinated and in the same regard, he went on to encourage students to respect the SOPs while learning through the ODeL system and for those with cough and flue to self isolate by staying home.
