Two people have been confirmed dead while four others were injured when lightning struck them dead while tilling in their garden in Kanungu district.
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson noted that the incident occurred at Omunsyokwe village, Kyamukende Parish, Kinaaba sub-county in Kanungu district on Tuesday at around 2:00 pm striking several people who were in the garden.
‘Two of the victims Edidiya Turyayebwa Edidiya a male adult of 42 years and Diana Kajowa Diyana a male adult 31 years died on spot, while Flora Nyinakiiza a female adult and her three children namely; Susan Ayebazibwe aged 16 years, Friday Akandwanaho of 5 years and Kirungi Blessings sustained injuries,’ Maate said.
Maate said the victims were all from the same family apart from Kajowa who had gone to help them in the garden.
He said Police went to the scene and removed the dead while the injured were taken to get medical attention.
