KAARO KARUNGI | NTUNGAMO – People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in  Ntungamo District have decried the  low HIV/AIDS activity funding which has exacerbated the continued spread of the scourge across the country.

This is after donors stopped  funding   some of the HIV/AIDS activities in Ntungamo district  .

According to Natukunda Peace Kaconco the focal person of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Ntungamo District low HIV funding has crippled their activities towards reducing the scourge, noting that it is paramount for the district to mainstream HIV/AIDS activities in their financial budgets.

She made remarks on Wednesday during the unveiling of the National HIV/AIDS strategic Plan 2020/21-2024/2025 in the Ntungamo district Board room by the Uganda Aids Commission under the theme,” Ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic: Communities at the forefront”.

The Ntungamo District health Educator Twesigye Nesterio also attributed the increase of HIV/AIDS in the district to non functional of district HIV/AIDS committees and sub county AIDS coordination committees due to lack of adequate funding.

However, the director of policy, Research and programing at Uganda AIDS Commission Dr Zepher Karyabakaabo  assured People Living with HIV/AIDS that the government has already directed to all accounting officers to allocate 0.1% of annual operational budgets towards mainstreaming HIV interventions in their respective sectors and creation of one Dollar initiative which is expected to generate additional funding from private sector.
