Following the orders of Rogers Mbabazi, Fort Portal Resident City Commissioner, the market was closed on Saturday, after Mbabazi observed that vendors at the market and the customers have not been complying to the Presidential directives of observing the four-meter physical distance as a safety measure to curtail the spread of the virus, having handwashing facilities and wearing masks.
Eventually, yesterday, the City COVID-19 task force toured the market to establish if the guidelines had been implemented and Mbabazi says the task force was satisfied that there is the strict observation of the guidelines.
Stephen Sabiiti, the Mpanga Market Chairperson noted that they had to purchase the required items like the temperature guns, soap handwashing facilities among others, but needs the task force’s help organise them instead of closing their only source of survival.
Mbabazi asked the leadership of all markets in the city to form a joint leadership that would enforce guidelines issued by the government and warned to close any market that flouts the guidelines.
