Afro Soul artist Naava Grey recently shared her reasons for not attending certain music events, commonly known as “bivulu,” which are often frequented by a different audience. She expressed that she focuses on quality rather than quantity when it comes to her music.
During an interview at a Fun Factory show held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on October 2, 2023, Naava Grey, known for her hit song “Soka Lami,” explained her stance. She mentioned that she doesn’t regularly release music because she values the high quality of her work.
Naava Grey pointed out that she has a specific audience who appreciate her music and understand her style. She stated, “You will not find me at shows like David Lutalo’s concert because he didn’t invite me, and I have fewer fans in that crowd.” She further elaborated that she can be found performing at venues like Serena and Protea, where her dedicated fans can enjoy her music without pressuring her to release new songs. According to her, her fans appreciate the enduring quality of her music, and that’s what matters most to her. She concluded by addressing those who criticize her absence from certain events, stating that such individuals are not her target audience.
