The Government has been advised to develop a clear work plan between the Health and Education ministries to effectively monitor treatment and understand the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on learners before schools are reopened.
The call was sounded by the Mbarara District Health Officer Dr. Peter Ssebutinde at the opening of a one day sensitization meeting aimed at supporting the most at risk population to live normal life in controlling further spread of HIV, facilitated by the most at-risk population initiative MARPSI at Generations Suits Kamukuzi in Mbarara.
Dr Ssebutinde says that there are teachers who teach in different schools who pose a great risk of transmitting the virus from one to another.
He further urged the government to prioritise vaccination of all teachers and all health workers and be offered Personal Protective Equipment – PPE’s in addition to providing essential drugs for treating the disease, before reopening schools noting that without fulfilling these schools shouldn’t be reopened.
