The National Council for Higher Education has accredited Ibanda University to teach postgraduate diploma and master’s degree programmes.
The Ibanda municipality-based institution got a provisional nod to teach five programmes; masters of public administration and management, masters in education planning and administration, masters of business administration, postgraduate diploma in education and postgraduate diploma in public administration and management.
A notice on the NCHE website indicates that the programmes got interim approval on March 14, 2022 for five years ending March 14, 2027.
The varsity was one of over a dozen institutions of higher learning whose programmes were okayed by the sector watchdog, NCHE.
However, Ibanda University will be offering graduate programmes for the first time.
Officials at the university say the courses are expected to commence in August.
At the beginning of last month, the NCHE evaluation committee visited and inspected the institution’s graduate school campus to gauge its capacity to teach post-graduate courses.
During the exercise, the visitation team commended the eight-year-old university’s e-learning facilities and its community-centric approach to education.
]The news of the varsity’s accreditation to teach postgraduate courses has excited stakeholders.
Patrick Turyamureba, who represents entrepreneur Dr Patrick Bitature on the university board, was the first to break the news to the institution’s administrators and staff on Wednesday morning, April 13.
“Congratulations to Ibanda University! We are finally accredited to teach postgraduate diplomas and masters,” he said in a WhatsApp message.
While responding to the development, many of the staff members called for a celebration over the “good news” with Anthony Arinaitwe, the dean of faculty of education suggesting a big launch for the graduate school.
