South Sudan in a reciprocal response has waived visa fees for Ugandans traveling to South Sudan. The visa fees used to cost $50 (sh179,957).
A statement released by the Uganda Media Centre issued by the Government of South Sudan stated that the government of South Sudan had welcomed the decision by Uganda to make the move.
“The ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation of South Sudan welcomes the decision of the Government of the sisterly Republic of Uganda to waive entry visa requirements for the citizens of the Republic of South Sudan with effect from 1st October 2021,” read the state from South Sudan’s ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation.
In the principle of reciprocity, the Government of South Sudan has directed the ministry of interior through the directorate of nationality passport and immigration to waive the visa entry requirements for Ugandan citizens holding valid passports with effect from Monday 4th October 2021,” read the statement.
“The ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation hails this move as a significant booster to the already existing stronger bilateral relations with Uganda,” the statement concluded.
Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister for East African Community Affairs revealed last month the decision of the Ugandan Government to fulfill the directives of the Heads of State Summit of the EAC to waive Visa fees on a reciprocal basis between South Sudan and Uganda , effective 1st October 2021. The visa fees used to cost the same amount of $50 (sh179,957). Member states of EAC are required to drop visa charges for citizens in the region to belonging the community to boost development in the region
