The late President was surrounded by his beloved wife, Monica Geingob, and his children at the time of his passing. President Hage Geingob had been a prominent figure in Namibian politics, contributing significantly to the nation’s development.
President Geingob served as Namibia’s third Republican President, assuming office in March 2015. Prior to his presidency, he held the distinction of being the country’s first post-independence Prime Minister, serving under President Sam Nujoma from 1990 to 2002. He later returned to the role from 2012 to 2015 before his election as the Republican President.
In addition to his political career, President Geingob made substantial contributions as the Trade and Industry Minister between 2008 and 2012. His dedication to public service and commitment to the well-being of the Namibian people earned him widespread respect.
Despite his health challenges, President Geingob remained active on the international stage. He attended the inauguration of Republican President Hakainde Hichilema in August 2021 and participated in the COMESA Summit in Lusaka the previous year, showcasing his enduring commitment to regional cooperation.
President Hage Geingob is survived by his wife, Monica Geingob, and their three children.
