A total of 9521 students who completed their studies in different disciplines will Tuesday graduate at Kyambogo University.
It will be the largest number of students to graduate from the university, Prof Eli Katunguka, the vice chancellor of the university said.
Of these, 251 students will graduate with first class degrees, comprising 164 males and 87 females.
The event will be presided over by President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni.
Katunguka said Museveni and Education Minister Janet Museveni will address the congregation from State House due to covid19 restrictions.
The event is being telecast via a local television.
The event comes hardly a week after High Court in Kampala dismissed a petition by some students, who had sought to stop the ceremony alleging that their names were missing on the graduation list book.
The students claimed the university had omitted their names from the graduation booklet even when they had duly fulfilled all the university’s requirements.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Katunguka said some of the affected students either had retakes, completed their projects late or had missing marks.
He however said that the university was working on rectifying the issues and once the results of the aggrieved students are verified, their transcripts will be processed even after missing the graduation ceremony.
The acting regional traffic officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police East, Rogers Namanya, said only invited guests and students with invitation cards will have access to the university.
He said accessing Kabaka’s Road and Banda side through the university to access the main road, will not be allowed for the next three days.
Kyambogo University was established in 2003 by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 by merging Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE.
