A total of 155 police officers have been retired from the Uganda Police Force after years of dedicated service.
According to the Uganda police, the 155 included; 59 Inspectorates (Inspectors of Police (IPs) and Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIPs)), 48 Sergeants, 27 Corporals, and 21 Constables.
While presiding over the farewell and walkout ceremony at police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Friday (December 10, 2021), the Inspector General of Police, Okoth Ochola, commended the police officers for a job well done.
“After many years of strenuous police duties, you are now relieved from the compulsory strains with honor and dignity, and it is for this reason that those who are still in service, should look at you with admiration and gratitude for a job well –done,” Ochola said.
Therefore, he asked the retirees to consider the sendoff function as a collective token of appreciation for a great journey of their achievements and beautiful memories.
“As retired Police officers, you left this institution “retiring” but not “tired” of doing public good. I, therefore, call upon you to always see yourselves as good emissaries of Uganda Police Force and never allow any selfish interest to blemish the integrity and wisdom you have nurtured over the years in this great disciplinary institution,” Ochola noted.
The retirement of 155 mainly junior police officers comes about a month after 12 senior police officers at the ranks of Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (AIGPs) and Senior Commissioners of Police (SCPs) were retired. On November 5, the police boss retired 12 senior officers who included AIGPs and SCPs.
Many of the officers had clocked the retirement age of 60 years but were serving on contracts renewed by President Yoweri Museveni.
The officers who retired include; former Traffic Director Dr. Steven Kasiima, former Interpol Director Hajji Moses Balimwoyo, former Logistics and Engineering Director Godfrey Bangirana, former Director General Duties Ahmed Wafuba, and former Director Forensic Services Samuel Ezati.
Others were; former Welfare and Production Director Lemmy Twinomugisha, and former Director Peace support operations Grace Turyagumanawe, former Operations Director Asuman Mugenyi, former Interpol Director Fred Yiga, former Director Crime Intelligence Godfrey Chombe, former acting Director Human Resource Development Felix Ndyomugyenyi and former head of Outreach Services at Interpol Elizabeth Kuteesa.
Earlier in January 2020, police released a list of 278 senior and junior police officers who were officially retired from the police force.
