Moroto, (UG): Residents of Nangorit village in Nadunget sub-county, Moroto district, have been gripped with panic following the discovery of the body of a primary teacher decaying in their village.
Mr. Oriokot, the head teacher of Loputuk primary school, informed this publication that the teacher, named Richard Enyegu, left the school on Friday afternoon, February 23, 2024, for Moroto town to search for a bodaboda driver who had intentionally disappeared with his bag containing documents and some flour, but he never returned.
“I made a phone call to his wife at home in Asamuk, Amuria district, but he never reached home,” he said.
He added that they mounted a search and were informed of a dead body rotting in the bushes.
Mr. Oriokot said upon reaching the site, they discovered the body of the teacher decomposing, with one arm and a leg missing.
Mr. Michael Longole, the Karamoja regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the joint security forces of the police and the army have launched a manhunt for the killers. He urged the community to assist the police with any relevant information.
He called for calm among the teachers who are already dismayed by the manner in which teachers are being killed in Karamoja.
Last year, a teacher was shot dead while her husband was injured in Moroto district.
In the same period, another science teacher was shot dead in Karita town council of Amudat district.
After one month in the same period, another teacher was shot dead in Kaabong while riding a motorcycle on his way back to school from his home area.
This Publication has learned that all these incidents targeting teachers in Karamoja have paralyzed teaching in the region.
