- Suspect Held for Girlfriend’s Suspicious Death
- Teenager’s Death Investigations Continue
Jinja – A 25-year-old man named Henry Kasawo has been arrested by Busoga East police on suspicion of being involved in the death of his teenage girlfriend, Ruth Ahereza. Kasawo, who lives in Kakola cell in Ivukula town council, Namutumba district, is believed to have committed the crime on October 6th, 2023, before going into hiding.
Kasawo and Ahereza had been living together since January 2023, but their relationship was filled with continuous problems. In August 2023, Ahereza left his house due to these issues.
According to a friend of Ahereza who chose to remain anonymous, she had been staying with Ahereza for the past month. Kasawo repeatedly tried to persuade her to return to his house, but she declined, citing difficult living conditions. On October 5th, 2023, Kasawo told Ahereza that he had found her a job in Iganga district and convinced her to accompany him for the job offer.
Tragically, Ahereza’s lifeless body was found locked in Kasawo’s bedroom on the evening of October 6th, raising suspicions about his involvement as he failed to report the incident to the authorities. Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, confirmed Kasawo’s arrest and mentioned that key evidence connects him to Ahereza’s death.
Nandawula explained that the autopsy report revealed signs of strangulation and bruises on Ahereza’s neck. She also stated that investigations are ongoing, with detectives focusing on reexamining the crime scene and gathering statements from residents to speed up the prosecution process.
