Joint security forces in Kaabong district have successfully apprehended 24 suspected Karamojong warriors believed to be connected to the recent raid on Komuria West Trading Center. This incident resulted in the tragic death of Damian Okidi and the robbery of a local bar.
On January 4th, 2024, at around 9:00 PM, unidentified armed warriors opened fire indiscriminately on people gathered at the trading center. Damian Okidi lost his life in the attack, while two others sustained injuries. Additionally, the assailants made off with an unspecified amount of money from a bar owned by Abraham Longoli.
In response to this heinous act, joint security forces took proactive measures to locate and apprehend the suspects. On Sunday night, successful cordon and search operations were conducted in the areas of Lomorutea and Morulem in Kaabong West Sub County, leading to the arrest of 24 suspects.
Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, disclosed that one of the suspects, Nyoya, played a direct role in the fatal shooting, along with three other warriors. Nyoya was apprehended alongside eight men and sixteen women, believed to be his relatives.
The security forces are now intensifying their efforts to gather more information and evidence to ensure a thorough investigation into the raid. The apprehended suspects will face legal proceedings as part of the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the Kaabong district.
