KAARO KARUNGI | KANUNGU– There was grief and fear at Kiruruma Sand Mine in Nyakinoni Sub County today morning after another man died at a sand mine that was reopened after 2 weeks of closure due to the same incident.
According to the resident who asked not to be named, the deceased was identified as Turyamuhebwa Hannington a son of Rutagasa a resident of Buhumuriro Cell in Nyakinoni Sub County.
The indident comes barely 24 hours after Kanungu District Security Committee reopened the sand mine and put in place a committee to enforce the strict guidelines that were put in place.

The Kanungu District Resident Commissioner Hajji Shaffiq Ssekandi Sengoba confirmed the incident to our reporter that Turyamuhebwa had died in illegal sand mining.
According to him, the District security and environment Committees held a meeting with the miners and agreed that none should get to the mines before the excavator levels the hanging cliffs.
