President Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of Uganda’s armed forces, has promoted 50 UPDF officers ranging from second lieutenant to Colonel.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Defence Spokesperson Brigadier Felix Kulayigye conveyed that the President has additionally confirmed the acting ranks of senior and junior officers within the UPDF.
The statement outlines the promotion of five colonels—Jimmy N. Musoke, John Patrick Otongo, James Muhwezi, Richard Rubongoya, and Wycliff Ruterana Keita—to the rank of brigadier, designating them as one-star generals.
In the recent promotions, 17 lieutenant colonels were promoted to colonel, and six acting lieutenant colonels had their positions confirmed.
Further promotions include nine majors advancing to lieutenant colonel, three acting majors being confirmed as majors, two captains promoted to major, one acting captain confirmed as captain, and seven second lieutenants elevated to lieutenants in the UPDF.
Brigadier Kulayigye expressed congratulations from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the UPDF fraternity to the senior and junior officers for their well-deserved promotions and confirmed ranks.
