Sheema Central police station Kabwohe is holding a 30 years old man who is alleged to have been selling fake seeds to Farmers and government.
Byaruhanga Cryton hailing from Masaka was yesterday arrested by Sheema police led by OC CID ASP Akong Bibian when he was selling his fake seeds to one of Sheema municipality agriculturalist,
“Byaruhanga has been faking both government and agriculturalists by selling them fake seeds for planting which couldn’t germinate, he has been dumplicating some companies and he fraudulently brand his fake seeds in their brand, however the original brand of the other companies has a seal which Byaruhanga doesn’t have, may be he forgot to fake it too, he has been faking people especially extension workers and some agriculturalists who have been giving him some contracts to supply them seeds, but out of 100 seeds, only like 5 could germinate and remember the original brand, contains more than 1000 seeds but his has like 200 seeds” ASP Akong Bibian
Talking to Byaruhanga after being arrested, he said that he has an experience in this job and that because of high rampant profits, he has already opened branches in districts like Ntungamo, Mbarara and Masaka wheteby the head offices are located in Kijjabweemi, Kampala.
“I have been in this job of faking for a year, what we do is one, we buy the original seeds and then we pack them in our sackets , then we put there little original seeds and seal, I don’t work alone of course, I employee so many and we have some branches” Byaruhanga
Nangumya Ziribabel one of the extension workers in Sheema district who is among those who have been faked, told us that Byaruhanga’s seeds, could take a month without germinating and that out of 100%, only like 3% could germinate.
He added that Byaruhanga has been supplying them tomato seeds, Doodo, Coffee, Carrots, cabbage and others .
Nangumya told us that they have been preferring Byaruhanga’s seeds just because he has been trading expensively which put hopes into their minds that he might have been selling quality seeds not knowing that they were buying air.
