Six members of parliament from Karamoja region have been duped into paying millions of shillings to conmen who promised to help them secure ministerial appointments. The MPs, who remain anonymous, each paid shs 100 million to the conmen, who claimed to have connections to the highest levels of government.
The conmen reportedly approached the MPs with the false promise that President Museveni was planning a major cabinet reshuffle and that they were seeking well-disciplined MPs from Karamoja to replace the current ministers, Dr. Mary Goreti Kitutu and Agnes Nadutu, who are both facing corruption charges.
The MPs, eager to secure ministerial positions, fell for the conmen’s lies and paid the hefty sums of money. However, after handing over the cash, they realized that they had been scammed. The conmen disappeared without a trace, and their phones have been switched off.
The MPs are now reportedly in a state of despair, having lost significant amounts of money and their hopes of becoming ministers. They are too embarrassed to come forward publicly and admit to their gullibility, fearing ridicule from their constituents and opponents.
