South Africa’s President has added more restrictions as the Delta Variant Corona Virus cases spike.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday 27th June 2021 tightened restrictions for more two weeks to curb the surging cases of Covid 19 in the country.
“South Africa is facing surge in Corona Virus infections of the Delta variant’ Ramaphosa said in the address to the nation.
” Our health facilities are stretched to the limit, ICU beds are in short supply .We are in a grip of a devastating third wave that by all indications seems like it will be worse that that preceded it” he added.
Ramaphosa banned sit down meals in all Eateries and Restaurants are allowed to serve take away services.
He banned all gatherings except for funerals where he limited numbers to 50 people, total ban on sale of alcohol and ordered all education institutions to close by Friday .
Ramaphosa further outlawed travel restrictions in and out of the densely populated, urbanised and industrialised Gauteng Province which accounts for over 60% of total national recorded infections making it the epicenter in the country.
The country has so far vaccinated only 2.7 million people since February 2021.
South Africa is the worst hit country in Africa with almost 2 million Corona virus recorded Cases and a total of 59,900 deaths reported as of Sunday 27th June 2021.
The world Health Organization alarmed all countries and health officials of the rapid spreading Delta Variant of Corona Virus that has taken the world by surprise.
