Absa Bank Uganda has generously sponsored ten golfers from Uganda to participate in the Pro-Am event of the esteemed 2024 Magical Kenya Open. The ceremony, held at Absa Bank Uganda, marked the flag-off for the contingent’s journey to the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya, where the tournament will take place from 21st to 25th February.
Selected based on their outstanding performance at the Absa-sponsored Pro-Am tournament of the 2023 Uganda Golf Open, the team comprises one professional and nine amateurs. Absa Bank Uganda will cover the flights and accommodation expenses for the qualifying amateurs and some clients, while the professional will receive financial assistance totaling USD 4,745 to facilitate early travel for practice and tournament participation.
Michael Segwaya, Executive Director of Absa Bank Uganda, expressed pride in Uganda’s golf community and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the professional growth of players. He emphasized the bank’s dedication to advancing the sport in Uganda as part of its broader mission to empower Africa’s future.
The golfers set to participate include Michael K. Musiime, Paul Habyarimana, Ivan Arinaitwe, Patricia Mbabazi, Emma Tayebwa, Wendy Angu’deyo, Michael Tumusiime, Alex Mango, and Bob Matsiko. Ronald Rugumayo, the sole professional golfer, will compete in the men’s professional tournament, while the amateurs will play in the Pro-Am event.
Rugumayo, qualifying for the tournament for the second consecutive year, expressed confidence in his performance and gratitude to Absa Bank Uganda for their continued support. He highlighted his dedication to representing Uganda with excellence and making the nation proud.
Absa Uganda’s sponsorship for the 2024 Magical Kenya Experience amounts to UGX 130 million, reflecting its ongoing commitment to promoting sports development in the region. This marks the sixth consecutive year of Absa Uganda’s participation in the Magical Kenya Open Pro-Am, demonstrating its steadfast support for Ugandan golfers.
