Omar Ahmed Mandela, a business bigwig, has publicised that he will be challenging for Sports Club Villa presidency in the forthcoming elections slated for November 13.
This was during a press briefing at City Oil in Kamwokya on Wednesday.
Omar Mandela is a prominent businessman behind Cafe Javas, City Oil and City Tyres.
I have decided to stand as president for SC Villa,” Mandela announced on Wednesday.
At the same briefing, Mandela unveiled the team that he said he would serve with that include SC Villa fanatics Daniel Bakaki, Salim Ssemanda, Engineer Ben Missaga and Mohammed Bazirengedde, who had earlier expressed interest in standing for the club presidency.
He has pledged that he will have three vice presidents under his leadership in a bid to restore the lost glory of the record Ugandan league champions.
Daniel Bakaki, who had interest in SC Villa presidency proclaimed that he decided to join Mandela to enhance the most competent team in the land forward.
We have decided to come together and see that the club goes forward. We are uniting as one force to take the club forward. For the last couple of days, I have been campaigning but I have decided we come together so that SC Villa goes forward,”Bakaki said.
Engineer Ben Missaga added that they have united together as one force to second one person who is Hajji Mandela, and he is optimistic that this unified force will take the club to winning ways and winning more trophies.
SC Villa were slated to hold elections on the 28th of August this year but a court injunction saw the process halted.
Mandela wish to return to the leadership of the club that he left in 2004 as the club president.
At the same function, Villa Members’ Trust announced that interested candidates are allowed to pick nomination forms between October, 3 and 6, 2021 before elections on November 13.
