Kaaro Karungi | Ibanda District – Hundreds of medical workers and teachers in Ibanda district have shunned vaccination against coronavirus (COVID-19).
Ibanda District Health Officer, Dr. Julius Bamwine saying they refused to participate over allegations that the vaccine was not safe.
Nearly 680 health workers from both government and private facilities had registered for vaccination while more than 2,000 teachers were targeted in Ibanda.
Kosam Bainomugisha, the Ibanda District Education Officer, said the teachers that have not received the jabs have no excuse as they were “sensitized about the exercise and are all aware of the importance of the vaccination”.
It should be remembered that while giving new guidelines on Covid-19 prevention on Sunday, President Museveni said teachers would not be allowed in schools if they are not vaccinated against the virus.
Meanwhile, the total number of people who have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Ibanda district stands at 4,065, including health workers, the elderly, Police and army personnel, teachers, and those with comorbidities.
