Moroto, Uganda: The death of Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament has shocked both the people of Karamoja and Teso.
Speaking to this publication after the death of Icon Ogwal was made public by the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, the two communities of Teso and Karimojong have described Ms. Ogwal as a mother and a senior educator who could address issues that affect both Karamoja, Teso, and the rest.
Mark Athio, a resident of Kangole in Napak district, said the late Ogwal was not representing only Dokolo people; she was a legislator for all Ugandans.
“I remember a year she stood in parliament and tasked the government as to why it was delaying to rescue the people of Karamoja who were dying of hunger,” he said.
The death of Cecilia Barbra Ogwal was announced by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on her Twitter page.
She died at the age of 77 in India where she was battling cancer.
Mr. Okurut from Wera in Amuria said Cecilia Ogwal had remained the only active politician witnessing the implementation of the constitution made in 1995.
“Mama has gone; she used to control and guide MPs in Parliament on how to deliberate on issues properly,” he said.
