UMSC releases 2020 Islamic Primary  Leaving Exams

KAARO KARUNGI | NEWS – Uganda Muslim Supreme Council(UMSC) has released the results for the 2020 Islamic Primary Leaving Examinations (IPLE) indicating a decrease in the number of of schools that registered for exams due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Speaking at the release of the examination results at the UMSC headquarters on Wednesday, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, praised the IPLE Board for initiating the exam system with the aim of improving Islamic religious education in the country.
“We are really grateful to the IPLE Board team under Sheikh Ismail Kazibwe for the tremendous improvement you displayed today as we celebrate the success of our children,” Waiswa pointed out.
He enumerated various challenges the Muslim community went through during the olden times when Mullahs used verandas and shades of trees in their courtyards to teach Muslim children how to recite the Holy Quran and other Islamic disciplines.
On behalf of the UMSC, Waiswa pledged to provide more technical and logistical support to the board to deliver its mandate.
In his remarks, Sheikh Bakhit Cucu, the UMSC education secretary disclosed that his department has designed a girl child intervention education program in partnership with over 600 registered schools which will be required to donate two bursaries to needy student’s countrywide.
“It is one of the drastic measures we hope to utilise in order to scale up education in the community because when you educate a woman, you educate a nation and when you give her proper upbringing, according to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, it earns you a blissful eternal life in the hereafter,” said Cucu.
On his part, the IPLE board chairman, Sheikh Kazibwe decried the decrease in the number of schools that registered for exams due to the covid-19 outbreak compared to 2019.
He disclosed that out of the 1019 students who registered for the exams, 1892 scored an average of 99.47% leaving behind a small number of students who failed at 0.53%.
The top three male performers were: Faiswal Huzaifah Senkay from Sumayya International School, Ismael Hassan Katende from Gangu Muslim P/ S and Arafat Abdul- Rahman Buyondo from Summayya International School.
While the females were: Naggayi Zulfah from Luffuka Quality School, Namatovu Manshullah Lubega from Sahara Islamic School and Juraujah Binti Habiibu from Quality School.
